The Certificate in Web Development Foundations is a beginner-friendly, project-based program that teaches you to design, build, and publish modern websites from the ground up. You start with no assumptions, how the internet delivers a page, what a browser actually does, and end able to ship a complete, responsive, interactive multi-page site you can show to employers or clients.

The course is built around doing, not just watching. Across eight sections and 90 lessons, every concept is paired with practical, copy-and-run code examples and reinforced by hands-on projects and quizzes. You'll set up a professional development environment (VS Code, Chrome DevTools, Node.js, Git, and GitHub), structure pages with semantic HTML, style and lay them out with CSS and Flexbox, make them responsive for phones and desktops, and bring them to life with JavaScript and DOM manipulation, building things like a personal profile page, a responsive landing page, and an interactive to-do app along the way.

A dedicated section covers something most foundational courses skip: using AI tools like ChatGPT, Claude, GitHub Copilot, and Claude Code effectively and responsibly, writing strong prompts, debugging with AI, and staying in control of your own code rather than depending on it. The program then culminates in a capstone project where you plan, build, style, add interactivity to, test, and submit a full website of your choosing (portfolio, business, restaurant, NGO, and more), complete with an AI usage report.

What you'll be able to do by the end: build responsive websites that work on any device, structure pages with clean semantic HTML, style interfaces with CSS and Flexbox, add interactivity with JavaScript, manipulate the DOM to respond to users in real time, and use AI to accelerate your workflow. To earn the certificate, you complete each section project and pass every quiz with at least 70%.
