About this course

This course is for adults who have been getting by. Asking a younger relative to send the email. Taking a photograph of a form instead of filling it in. Avoiding the bank app because one wrong tap feels expensive. No prior experience is assumed and nothing is skipped.

You work on a real machine from the first session. You will name and find your own files, send email with an attachment, build a CV, keep a shop's daily takings in a spreadsheet, complete an online form that asks for your NIN, and move money on a bank app while someone experienced sits beside you.

You leave able to use a computer and a phone for work without help: find reliable information, organise an inbox, produce a document somebody will take seriously, handle a bank app calmly, and recognise the scam messages that catch thousands of people every week.

Taught in person, in small groups, one machine per person. Every session is practice rather than lecture, and you leave each class with the work you did in it saved in your own account. This is the on-ramp to every other course we run.

Questions people ask

I have never touched a computer. Is this really for me?

Yes. The first session begins with switching a machine on and holding a mouse. Everyone in the room starts at the same point, and the pace is set by the class, not by the syllabus.

Do I need my own laptop?

A computer is provided for you in class. Bring your own laptop if you have one, because it is better to learn on the machine you will actually use afterwards, and bring your smartphone to every session.

Will I have to put my real bank details into anything?

No. Banking sessions use practice material and screenshots, and where you do use your own bank app it stays in your hands on your own phone. We will never ask for your PIN, OTP or password, and neither will your bank.

What language is the class taught in?

English, in plain language, with terms explained as they come up. Ask to have anything repeated as many times as you need. Nobody here is judged for asking.

Do I get a certificate, and what can I do afterwards?

You receive a Toko Academy certificate once you have completed the coursework and met the attendance requirement. This course is the on-ramp to our other programmes, including Python Programming, and most people use it immediately for CVs, email, records and online applications.

When do classes run, and how do I pay?

Timetables differ by intake, so ask the admissions desk for the current schedule before you plan around it. Fees, instalment options and corporate invoicing are confirmed at registration, and you should get that in writing before you pay anything.
